A fervent cycling enthusiast, Matt had his first experience riding a penny farthing on his 50th birthday and instantly fell in love with it.
Inspired by this unique hobby, he decided to use it as a force for good. Teaming up with his close friend, Bill Pollard, the duo embarked on a charitable adventure, planning a five-day journey to raise funds.
They set off from Henley on Saturday, 8 June, aiming to reach Paris by Wednesday, 12 June.
After arriving in France on Monday, 10 June, Matt shared his thoughts with Luxury Travel Daily, reflecting on the challenges and the overwhelming support they received.
“The ride has been significantly more demanding than we initially expected, especially the 56 miles over the South Downs to Newhaven,” Matt admitted. “We’re deeply touched by the kindness and generosity of everyone we’ve met since starting on Saturday. Their support has been a crucial motivator for us.”
Expressing their gratitude, he added, “We want to thank so many individuals personally, and we will once the ride is completed. And of course, the ladies say ‘Ooooh!’ and the gentlemen say ‘Merveilleux!'”
The pair are raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, with their JustGiving page nearing £15,000 of their £50,000 goal. Throughout their journey, they are also showcasing their stylish travels and eye-catching attire on social media.
