In a nod to a time-honored British tradition, The Preserve Sporting Club & Resort, located in Rhode Island, has teamed up with acclaimed Chef David Burke to mark the opening of pheasant season with a unique culinary event.
On October 19, dubbed “The Glorious Nineteenth,” Chef Burke will serve New Yorkers pheasant fresh from the hunt, celebrating the first day of the season in a fashion inspired by Britain’s annual “Great Grouse Race.”
The event brings the sporting heritage of pheasant shooting from The Preserve to the heart of New York City, with the game bird delivered from Rhode Island to Burke’s Upper East Side restaurant, David Burke Tavern, by a bespoke Bentley Bentayga.

This collaboration aims to give urban food enthusiasts a taste of the outdoors while honoring the tradition and provenance of game dining.
Resort chairman Paul Mihailides expressed his pride in showcasing the beauty of Rhode Island’s wilderness and its bounty. “We’re excited to bring this experience to New York and share a meal that celebrates both nature and fine dining,” Mihailides said.
Chef Burke added, “Serving pheasant on opening day is not just about the food—it’s about offering an experience that connects people with the rich traditions of hunting and the flavors of the season.”
The Preserve Sporting Club & Resort, spanning over 3,500 acres, offers premium upland hunting experiences in stunning natural surroundings. While pheasant shooting is a perk of membership, non-members can also join select events such as Continental Pheasant Hunts, making the adventure accessible to all.
