The Dyrt Reports Growing Popularity of Glamping Among Campers

Glamping Attracts Nearly 8 Million Campers in 2023, Reports The Dyrt

The Dyrt, the leading app for camping availability, photos, and reviews, has revealed a significant increase in glamping’s popularity. According to The Dyrt’s 2024 Camping Report, presented by the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, nearly 8 million people, representing 9% of all campers, experienced glamping in 2023. Notably, 42% of these glampers were first-timers.

“Glamping remains the perfect foray into camping for the tentative non-campers out there,” said The Dyrt founder Sarah Smith. “It’s kind of like camping with training wheels, where people can get a feel for it without sacrificing all the comforts of home. For others, it’s a luxurious alternative to the tent camping they’re used to.”

Growth in Glamping Sites

The growing interest in glamping has prompted campgrounds to expand their offerings. In 2023, 22.1% of property owners who already offered glamping increased the number of glamping sites at their properties.

RV camping was the only type more commonly expanded, at 26.2%. Additionally, 10% of properties that introduced a new type of camping added glampsites in 2023. However, this growth has slowed compared to 2022, when 44% of properties adding a new camping type opted for glampsites.

Unique Glamping Experiences

“I’m biased, but glamping (and camping) doesn’t get any better than on a California cliff overlooking the ocean,” said The Dyrt camper Ward T. of California. “You can’t beat glamping in a heated yurt on a Big Sur mountainside watching the sun set down into the Pacific.”

The Dyrt’s third annual Glampy Awards, which celebrate the most unique and innovative glampground destinations in the U.S., highlighted several exceptional sites.

Loving Heart Retreats in Texas Hill Country, featuring upscale domes and tents, won top honors for 2024. Other notable winners included a furnished shipping container at a Nevada desert music festival site and an 18-sided yurt-style cabin in the Washington woods.

“As glamping becomes more and more prevalent, properties are looking to set themselves apart,” said The Dyrt CEO Kevin Long. “It’s not just about king-size mattresses on a platform covered by a canvas tent. Property owners are getting super creative. Two of the strongest human desires are to try new things and to be comfortable. Glamping gives you both in spades.”
