Mandarin Oriental has unveiled its second property in London, the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, located in the historic Hanover Square, a hub where fashion, art, business, and culture converge.
This chic new addition to the Mandarin Oriental family features 50 guestrooms and suites, 77 private residences, acclaimed Chef Akira Back’s first London restaurant, two bars, and a luxurious spa.
The property, designed by the globally acclaimed Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, represents the first new construction in Mayfair in over a decade. The design showcases a Vierendeel structured building—one of the first in the UK—offering expansive internal spaces and a sophisticated townscape façade, adorned with the UK’s longest burnt red brick ‘baguettes,’ a nod to the Georgian terraces nearby.

Inside, the hotel’s connection to its prestigious location is reflected in the meticulous design of the guestrooms and suites by Studio Indigo. These spaces seamlessly blend Mandarin Oriental’s Asian heritage with local influences, creating a unique identity.
Inspired by haute couture, each room is envisioned as a jewelry box, featuring a rich color palette of emerald green, regal maroon, and tranquil turquoise, alongside fine timbers, marbles, and bespoke lighting and furniture. House of de Gournay hand-painted silk wallpaper, with its flowering magnolia design, is a prominent feature, paying homage to the Hanover Square trees and the hotel group’s oriental roots.
The hotel’s public areas, including the reception, atrium, Akira Back restaurant, ABar Lounge, chef’s table Dosa, private dining rooms, and spa, were designed by Tokyo-based agency Curiosity.
These spaces use color and texture to create a striking effect. The spa lobby, adorned with rare green Ming marble, echoes the verdant surroundings of Hanover Square, Berkeley Square, and Green Park, while the dining areas are inspired by natural elements, with lighting and suspended structures creating an immersive experience.
Chef Akira Back, who brings his culinary expertise to the UK for the first time, infuses his adventurous spirit into the hotel’s dining offerings. The Akira Back restaurant, seating 148 and including three private dining rooms, serves his signature dishes like the ‘AB Tuna Pizza,’ featuring a crispy crust, umami aioli, ponzu sauce, tuna sashimi, micro shiso, and white truffle oil.
The intimate 14-seater Dosa offers a theatrical dining experience with contemporary Korean dishes, utilizing seasonal ingredients and innovative techniques. Guests can also enjoy drinks at the ABar Lounge, which boasts an artistic cocktail program and live DJ performances. Later in 2024, the ABar Rooftop will open, offering panoramic views of the London skyline.
For wellness enthusiasts, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair introduces several UK firsts in wellness treatments. These include binaural biohacking sessions, offering quick fixes like ‘stress release,’ ‘mindfulness,’ ‘awaken,’ and ‘power nap’ within 22 minutes. The spa menu features treatments by ‘Swiss Perfection,’ ‘Seed to Skin Tuscany,’ and CBD-infused ‘OTO.’ Unique to this spa are the ‘Tranquillity of Mayfair’ four-handed massage and the ‘Elegance of Mayfair’ facial.
The spa also includes a 25-meter swimming pool, sauna, vitality pools, experience showers, a state-of-the-art gym, personal training, reformer Pilates, nutritional consultations, physiotherapy, and NormaTec massage technology.
Mandarin Oriental Mayfair enjoys a prime location near Bond Street’s fashion houses, the boutiques of Saville Row, and numerous art galleries and auction houses, offering guests a stylish base in one of London’s most sought-after areas.
The hotel provides exclusive access to experiences in fashion, art, culture, and dining, connecting guests with the vibrancy of its new neighborhood. This new property, along with the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, offers visitors and locals an expanded way to experience the luxurious Mandarin Oriental brand.
Developed and owned by Clivedale London, an independent developer focused on prime properties in London, W1, the overall project includes the hotel and the 77 residences at Mandarin Oriental.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, known for its luxurious hotels, resorts, and residences, has grown from its Asian roots into a global brand over the past 60 years.
