Swedish company Heart Aerospace has unveiled its first full-scale demonstrator aircraft, marking a key milestone in the development of its regional hybrid-electric plane, the ES-30.

The demonstrator, named Heart Experimental 1 (Heart X1), was built almost entirely in-house at the company’s Gothenburg facilities and will undergo rigorous testing to advance the design and production of the ES-30.

With a 32-meter wingspan, the Heart X1 will initially focus on ground-based testing before its first fully electric flight, scheduled for 2025.

Heart Aerospace is targeting type certification of the ES-30 by the end of the decade, with a hybrid flight planned for 2026. The project is partly funded by Swedish Innovation Agency, Vinnova, and the FAA’s FAST program.

The ES-30, designed to carry 30 passengers, offers a zero-emission electric range of 200 km and a hybrid range of 400 km, aiming to revolutionize short-haul air travel.
