Hard Rock International and New York Mets owner Steve Cohen have revealed new renderings of the highly anticipated Metropolitan Park, a transformative $8 billion project set to turn Citi Field’s parking lots into 25 acres of public park space.
The project, currently advancing through New York City’s ULURP (Uniform Land Use Review Procedure), aims to revitalize the area around Citi Field, creating an economic engine and community hub while offering new amenities for New Yorkers, Mets fans, and visitors.

Metropolitan Park will feature 20 acres of public parkland and 5 acres of athletic fields and playgrounds, significantly enhancing local green space. This development will provide over 23,000 union jobs, including permanent and construction roles, and will boost the area’s infrastructure, transit options, and climate resilience.
Key Features of Metropolitan Park:
- Eataly: A vibrant Queens Food Hall showcasing local vendors and restaurants.
- Public Park: 25 acres of new park space, more than Bryant Park, the High Line, and Union Square Park combined.
- Hard Rock Hotel and Casino: Anchored by a live music venue, the hotel and casino will serve as the project’s economic core, offering sports betting, dining, and entertainment.
- Transit and Infrastructure: Major investments in public transit, including ADA-accessible upgrades to the Mets-Willets Point 7 Train station and improved cycling paths and walkways.
Steve Cohen highlighted the project’s focus on community engagement, with input from over 20,000 local residents. “When I bought this team, fans and the community kept saying we needed to do better. Metropolitan Park delivers on that promise,” Cohen said.
The design, led by SHoP Architects and Field Operations, pays homage to the area’s historical landmarks while connecting neighborhoods and expanding waterfront access.
