A man staying at a budget hotel claims he walked out after checking the bed with a UV light.
Zac Jones booked a room at the Highbury hotel in Blackpool, paying just £12.80 for the night.
The 27-year-old, who has a habit of inspecting budget accommodations, immediately began checking the room for cleanliness, even using a UV light to spot any hidden stains.

Zac, who has reviewed multiple low-cost hotels in the past, described this particular experience as the “worst” he’d ever encountered.
He documented his stay and posted the footage on TikTok, where one of his videos has since garnered 2.4 million views.
Reflecting on his stay, he noted that the room was “a bit dirty” and “vintage” but mentioned that there were some basic amenities like coffee, tea, a kettle, and a TV available.
“For £12.80 a night, I’m impressed,” Zac, a content creator from Liverpool, shared with Luxury Travel Daily.
“[But] I’d rather drive home than sleep in that bed.”
The first signs of trouble came when he noticed a stained chair and a dirty cupboard, which lowered his expectations.
Despite what he described as “not a terrible first impression,” Zac proceeded to inspect the bed using his UV light.
Upon removing the sheets, he uncovered what seemed to be a stained mattress, and the UV light made the stains even more visible.
Visibly disgusted by the sight, Zac groaned, calling it “horrible” and “atrocious.”
Labeling it the “worst UV light inspection I’ve ever done,” Zac quickly decided not to stay the night.
His TikTok followers were equally disturbed by the condition of the room.
One person wrote: “At first I thought it didn’t look too bad, but after that, no way. I’d rather stay at a chain hotel.”
“I’d be heading to a Premier Inn immediately,” another user added.
Someone else commented, “There’s no chance I’d sleep in that room.”
Another simply said: “Hell no.”
However, not everyone was put off by the budget price. One person joked, “For £12, I expected worse,”
while another added, “For £12.80, I’d still sleep there, even if a crime scene had just been cleared.”
Despite leaving early, Zac said he didn’t have any real complaints about the hotel and described the staff as “friendly.”
He explained, “I didn’t ask for a refund – the price was fair. The room wasn’t the worst I’ve stayed in, and I was pleasantly surprised when the owner said breakfast was included in the price!”
Zac was also satisfied with the shared areas, although he did spot a few cobwebs and some stray hairs.
Overall, he found the communal areas reasonably clean and was particularly impressed by the fry-up breakfast, which he unfortunately didn’t get to try as he left before morning.
Jam Press has reached out to the Highbury hotel for comment.
