Two England supporters embarked on an epic journey from England to Germany in a £650 car to cheer for the Three Lions at Euro 2024.

Robbie Thompson and Dan McGladdery bought a Vauxhall Vectra, decked it out with England flags, and drove over 2,500 miles, following England from city to city.

Starting from Middlesbrough, they have been on the move, cheering on Gareth Southgate’s squad, including celebrating a 1-0 victory over Serbia in England’s Euro 2024 opener.

Currently, they’ve parked in Frankfurt, gearing up for the match against Denmark on June 20.

While Robbie has been sampling local dishes, he’s found himself unimpressed, declaring English cuisine as ‘definitely better.’

The duo began their adventure on June 8, aiming to traverse Germany and support England all the way to the final.

Along the way, they’ve been showing off their Vauxhall Vectra, mingling with fans from various countries, and soaking up the tournament atmosphere.

Their trip, costing around £2,500 for fuel and accommodation, includes stays in youth hostels, campsites, and Airbnbs to manage expenses.

Robbie, a 39-year-old shoe company owner, shared their plans with Luxury Travel Daily: “We’re visiting fan zones in every city and attending at least one of the England group stage games. We’re camping, staying in youth hostels, and using Airbnbs.

I’ve been traveling with my friend Dan, a fellow lifelong England supporter, since I was five. We wanted to fully experience the tournament—driving, camping, and tasting the food.

“We often fail to appreciate our own cuisine in England. It’s not worse than German food, they’re quite similar, but overall, English food is better. The schnitzel was fantastic, but the sausages are overrated and nothing special.”

Robbie even crafted special England-themed trainers from his firm, Zach Footwear, for the trip. Reflecting on their decades-long support for England, he said, “We’ve endured the highs and lows of being England fans for over 30 years. My first memory is England losing to Germany in the semi-final of Italia 90. I was hiding behind the sofa watching the game, and when we lost on penalties, I started crying.

“This time, I really feel it’s coming home. These trainers are one of the first ever designed specifically for England fans at a tournament since the 80s. I hope they’re a good omen and a lucky charm.

The feedback from England fans following our journey has been amazing and motivates us to capture the best raw content, providing a real insight into the experience out here, especially for those back home. It’s an honest look at the food, the culture, and the tournament.”
