Calhoun County Emergency Management Service (EMS) in Texas has partnered with Jump Aero, a California-based aviation company, to test the use of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for emergency response.
The collaboration will trial Jump Aero’s JA1 Pulse aircraft, designed to quickly transport first responders to emergency scenes in rural and remote areas, including Calhoun County’s barrier islands and hard-to-access locations.

This initiative aims to reduce emergency response times in areas where ambulances may face delays. By enabling first responders to fly directly to emergencies, the JA1 Pulse could significantly improve outcomes for both residents and visitors. The partnership also seeks funding opportunities through grants and federal programs to support the trial.
“Calhoun County has been looking for a solution to provide timely response within our geographical challenges, and this aircraft has the promise to make a real difference,” said Dr. J. Dustin Jenkins, Calhoun County EMS Director.
