Surprise Upgrades to Premium Class for Main Cabin Guests Throughout Summer
This summer, Alaska Airlines is adding a touch of excitement to air travel with its “Upgrade Unlocked” program. From June 1 until September 2, at least one guest seated in the Main Cabin will be surprised daily with an upgrade to Premium Class, celebrating the busy travel season in style.
“‘Upgrade Unlocked’ is one way we’re showing guests our appreciation for choosing to fly with us to their favorite destinations this summer,” said Eric Edge, managing director of marketing and advertising at Alaska Airlines.
“Premium Class is just one of the many premium products and services we offer to our guests, including our best-in-class lounges, the freshest West Coast food and beverage line-up, and our award-winning Mileage Plan program with the fastest path to elite status. Whether it’s their first time or they’ve experienced Premium Class before – we can’t wait to hear from our guests who receive this surprise upgrade!”

What Premium Class Offers
Guests lucky enough to receive the surprise upgrade will enjoy four extra inches of legroom, the most of any U.S. legacy airline, in custom-designed leather seats.
Premium Class also includes early boarding, complimentary beer, wine, or cocktails for guests 21 and over on most flights over 350 miles, and prioritized access to overhead bin space and deplaning. These seats, typically reserved for elite loyalty program members or available for purchase, offer an enhanced flying experience.
Increasing Summer Travel Demand
As the summer travel season heats up, Alaska Airlines has seen a surge in passengers, with a 6% increase in travel over Memorial Day weekend alone. The airline anticipates even higher numbers as the Independence Day holiday approaches and has added more flights to meet the demand.
Expanded services include routes from Anchorage to Chicago, Denver, and Salt Lake City, and new service to New York City beginning in June. Additionally, Alaska Airlines is introducing new nonstop routes connecting Portland to Nashville and San Diego to both Atlanta and Tampa. This expansion complements recent international routes to Guatemala, The Bahamas, and Toronto.
Easier Upgrades for All Travelers
For those eager to upgrade their travel experience, Alaska Airlines has made it easier than ever. Guests can now pay to upgrade to First or Premium Class up to 30 minutes before departure through the Alaska Airlines website or mobile app.
