A savvy traveller has shared how she took an “extreme day trip” abroad after nabbing £37 return flights – and ended up with a holiday resort almost entirely to herself.

Angie Pietersen was scouring the web for a last-minute deal when she spotted a cheap flight to her dream location.

Jumping at the chance to see Oslo, the Brit paid £37 for a return flight – but there was a big catch.

Angie, a university lecturer from Hertfordshire, would get less than 24 hours to enjoy her adventure abroad.

Enticing a colleague to join her, the 49-year-old booked the tickets and jetted off for an impromptu ski holiday before the season ended.

“The weather was beautiful and views over the lakes stunning,” the 49-year-old told Luxury Travel Daily.

“It was worth it – we had a great day out on the slopes in snow and sun.

“We had the resort almost to ourselves in the early afternoon with ski clubs and families joining after school.

“I would definitely go again.”

The trip came about after Angie remembered that the ski slopes in Oslo were near the city centre – meaning she wouldn’t have to waste precious time travelling once she landed – so she hunted for flights.

She added: “I loved the idea of doing my first extreme day trip as something new.

“I had never been to Norway either, so it appealed.

“A quick search for flights found £37 return flights from Stansted to Oslo.

“I researched Skimore Oslo and realised it was just over an hour from the airport by train.”

Sold by the idea, Angie tempted a colleague to join her, and they headed off on the adventure last week (2 April).

The duo flew out on an 8:20 am flight and landed at 11:30 local time (an hour ahead).

Angie said: “Security was quick and easy and when I told the border agent I was in Oslo for the day she responded with a laugh and said ‘You’re one of those!’.”

From there, the pals caught the train to Oslo Central and changed to the Metro, finally arriving at the ski resort just at 2 pm.

Angie said: “We were skiing by 2:30 pm and stayed four hours.

“It was very quiet on the slopes until after school when some local kids came with clubs or parents to enjoy the last few days of the season.

“It was a fantastic day – there are a variety of green, blue and red runs with one black.

“There was a fun park with rails and some crazy jumps which the Norwegian kids used like pros – I was happy watching this from the chair lift!

“We had a great day of skiing with enough to keep most skiers happy.”

They spent £88 each on a lift pass and equipment hire, and in total, Angie spent £185 on the short trip, including the flight cost, airport car park fees, and transport while in Oslo.

She is now planning her second ‘extreme day trip’ – a jaunt to Italy with her husband.
