Kailua-Kona’s vibrant tourist district will welcome the Hampton Inn Kailua-Kona Bay in Summer 2025, following a $30 million transformation led by investor Sandy Shapery and Summit Capital.
Managed by PEG Hospitality Group, the hotel will blend modern comfort with a 1960s Hawai‘i aesthetic, preserving the property’s original character while upgrading its amenities.

Located in the heart of the eight-block oceanfront area, the 123-room hotel will feature a fitness center, a pool, and an expansive outdoor space with a firepit, bar, and live entertainment pavilion. A highlight will be the Island Bar and Grill by Trader Vic’s, serving Polynesian cuisine and the iconic Mai Tai.
The renovation includes environmentally friendly updates, such as LED tiki torches and a durable composite wood boardwalk.
A second elevator is also being added to meet Hilton’s standards. “This restoration reflects our commitment to high-quality accommodations while honoring Hawaiian traditions,” said Shapery.
A traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony was held in December 2024 to honor the land and community. “This investment enhances the visitor experience while preserving the essence of our local culture,” said Mayor Kimo Alameda.
Hampton Inn Kailua-Kona Bay is set to offer an authentic and accessible stay, reinforcing Hilton’s legacy of service and hospitality in Hawai‘i.
