Paris, July 25, 2024 – At the request of Olivia Grégoire, French Minister Delegate with responsibility for Business, Tourism and Consumption, the Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) has adapted its SignalConso platform for English-speaking consumers. This enhancement coincides with the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, ensuring that tourists can report consumer issues efficiently.

Enhanced Consumer Protection for Tourists

The SignalConso platform, available online and as a mobile app, now offers an English translation to assist foreign visitors in reporting issues such as overcharging for transport fares, discrepancies in hotel room descriptions, fraudulent services, and counterfeit goods. This initiative aims to provide international tourists with the utmost protection during their stay in France.

User-Friendly Tool for Reporting Issues

Since its launch in 2020, SignalConso has received nearly 870,000 reports, with about 12% related to tourism-oriented industries like travel, entertainment, and hospitality. The platform’s user-friendly interface and mobile accessibility have made it a valuable tool, with over 160,000 downloads of the smartphone app. The new English version allows tourists to report problems and contact traders with ease, facilitating out-of-court settlements and quick resolutions.

Rapid Fraud Detection and Trader Accountability

The DGCCRF’s introduction of an English version of SignalConso will also help detect emerging fraud cases targeting tourists and identify frequently reported traders in tourist-centric industries. This proactive approach aims to enhance consumer safety and satisfaction during the high-profile Olympic and Paralympic events.

Awareness Campaign for Tourists

To ensure widespread awareness of this service, Minister Olivia Grégoire has initiated a poster campaign in high-traffic tourist areas such as airports, train stations, and shopping centers. This campaign aims to inform international visitors about the availability and benefits of the SignalConso platform.

Additional Support with ReponseConso

ReponseConso, a public service dedicated to providing consumer information, is also available to address consumption-related queries in both French and English. Visitors can reach ReponseConso from Monday to Friday at +33 809 540 550, a toll-free number, for assistance with any consumer issues they encounter during their stay.

Conclusion

The launch of the English version of the SignalConso platform by the DGCCRF is a significant step in safeguarding the consumer rights of tourists during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This initiative ensures that international visitors can easily report and resolve any consumer-related issues, enhancing their overall experience in France.
