MARIN COUNTY, Calif., August 3, 2024 – Experience one of the world’s most scenic and challenging bike rides by participating in the Marin Century, set in the picturesque landscapes of Northern California. Starting from the stunning Stafford Lake State Park in Novato, this event promises an unforgettable journey through the summits and foothills of Mount Tamalpais and the scenic coast of Tomales Bay.

Organized by Marin Cyclists, the Marin Century has a legacy spanning over 60 years, making it one of the longest-running cycling events in the USA. Recognized in 2019 by Outside Magazine as one of the Top 25 Best Bike Rides in the World, the Marin Century offers riders the chance to join a storied tradition of cycling excellence.

  • Routes: Compact Classic (62 miles), Classic Century (100 miles), Mt. Tam Century (100 miles with 9,000+ feet of climbing)
  • Post-Ride Amenities: Freshly prepared treats, ice-cold drinks, creamy gelato, craft beer, and live music.

Route Descriptions:

  • Compact Classic (62 miles): This route takes riders through West Marin, featuring a climb up Marshall Wall at mile 17, scenic rides through Chileno Valley, and a challenging ascent up Wilson Hill, with a total climb of approximately 4,300 feet.
  • Classic Century (100 miles): Following the Compact Classic route until mile 34, this course offers additional serene miles and a significant climb up Wilson Hill. Riders will traverse the old-growth redwoods of Samuel P. Taylor State Park and face a final tough climb at mile 92, totaling over 7,150 feet of climbing.
  • Mt. Tam Century (100 miles): Designed for experienced cyclists, this route includes extended climbs, technical descents, and breathtaking views from Mt. Tamalpais. The route exceeds 9,000 feet of climbing, making it a true test of endurance and skill.

A Tradition of Excellence:

The Marin Century traces its origins to 1963, when a group of ambitious cyclists from Marin County organized a 100-mile ride through West Marin’s hills. Over its 60-year history, more than 50,000 cyclists have participated, enjoying the camaraderie, scenery, and delectable post-ride treats that have become hallmarks of the event.

After completing their rides, participants will be welcomed with an array of mouth-watering treats, refreshing beverages, and the relaxing sounds of live local and regional bands, creating the perfect atmosphere to unwind and celebrate their achievements.
