Sydney’s iconic Vivid Sydney festival has commenced its 14th year, dazzling spectators with an opening night of extraordinary light installations, music, and art.

Running from May 24 to June 15, the Southern Hemisphere’s premier multi-artform festival transforms the city into a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation for 23 nights under the theme of Humanity.

NSW Premier Chris Minns heralded the event’s kickoff, inviting families to partake in the magical lights and festivities.

Minister for the Arts, Music, and the Night-time Economy, John Graham, emphasized Vivid Sydney’s role in showcasing the city’s vibrant culture and creative talents on a global stage.

This year’s festival boasts over 30 light installations and 3D projections along the 8km Vivid Sydney Light Walk, featuring the highlight “Lighting of the Sails: Echo (2024)” at the Sydney Opera House. Created by Archibald Prize winner Julia Gutman and Pleasant Company, the projection transforms ancient fabric-making techniques into a modern digital masterpiece.

Festival Director Gill Minervini expressed pride in this year’s lineup, which includes contributions from renowned artists, chefs, musicians, and thought leaders. The event spans multiple locations across the Sydney CBD, including Circular Quay, The Rocks, Barangaroo, and the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.
