Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged deeper tourism cooperation between China and the United States, highlighting the importance of people-to-people exchanges in fostering stable and healthy bilateral relations.

In a message to the 14th China-U.S. Tourism Leadership Summit on May 22, Xi expressed hopes for increased dialogue and consensus-building between the two nations through tourism.

Xi emphasized that successful initiatives must be rooted in and supported by the people, stressing the significance of non-governmental friendship. He pointed to his numerous interactions with Americans as efforts to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation.

The President reiterated the “San Francisco vision” established during his meeting with President Joe Biden last November, which includes promoting people-to-people exchanges as a key pillar of China-U.S. relations.

Tourism serves as a crucial bridge for mutual understanding, with both nations boasting rich cultures and landscapes that attract visitors keen to learn more about each other. Recent efforts have stabilized China-U.S.

relations, increasing dialogue and cooperation across various fields. Initiatives, such as inviting 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study programs, aim to deepen mutual understanding.

Xi highlighted the importance of communication in eliminating misunderstandings and biases, advocating for expanded tourism cooperation. He called for both countries to facilitate travel and exchanges, including increasing direct flights and easing visa processes.

Marking the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and the U.S., Xi urged both nations to learn from history, value peace and stability, and build on the foundation of people-to-people friendship.

He emphasized that the future of bilateral relations depends on the efforts of the people, expressing confidence in a steady, cooperative relationship that meets global expectations.
